Where is our private space in the city? As revealed in the previous Zentuary trend, we are all looking for a silent and peaceful retreat in our busy city. BMW Guggenheim Lab, a mobile laboratory that travels around the world to rethink about urban life, is currently in Mumbai exploring the topic of privacy in this densely populated city.
Some early findings from the lab revealed that most participants often found privacy in public spaces with architectural element such as street furniture or playground equipment. They also attained privacy in large open spaces such as seafront promenade. Recently an online game Public/ Private was created as an effort to extend the discussion of privacy to other places in the world. Users can share the expectation of privacy in various spaces like home, work, transportation etc. The responses will generate a visual graph to compare with the results of other cities in the world.
