FW2012 Menswear Runway Trend – Part I

Two very clear directions were adopted in the menswear runway of next fall/winter: suits and military. They are both the staple of men’s formal wear. But in this season they are not just presented as what we know, there are some new twists in them.

Y stands for the Y generation. These young adults are going to fill up the workplace in the coming decade. This helps explaining why designers recently like to redesign the formal outfits for this emerging generation.

Y also stands for an attitude. This generation tends to be more liberal. (wh)Y formal?  If they love casual friday that much, why don’t we loosen up the formal wear for them also? Designers offer quite a lot of options: you can go for bold choices such as Dris Van Noten suits with colourful print; you can accommodate your diversified lifestyle by freely matching your outfits with sporty elements such as baseball cap like Kenzo or even workwear like Kris Van Assche.

Military trend has been there for a while already, what’s new with it? This season, we can see military-inspired clothes getting more chic. For example, in Versace, camouflage pattern is repainted with a brighter shade of green. It even appears on fur in Jean Paul Gaultier. For Miharayasuhiro, he gave a sartorial styling to head-to-toe checked pattern uniform.
